Colleges and universities in Prince William County include the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus (Manassas), Northern Virginia Community College with campuses in Manassas and Woodbridge, ECPI University (Manassas), Stratford University (Woodbridge) and Strayer University with campus buildings in Manassas and Woodbridge.  George Mason University Science and Technology Campus in Prince William County educates students pursuing undergraduate, and graduate degrees. Community partnerships at George Mason University in Manassas include the Hylton Performing Arts Center, the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center, and the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases.

Northern Virginia Community College supports the local workforce by providing programs supporting the training and certification of technical skills.  NVCC also has 50% of its students transfer to four-year colleges. Northern Virginia Community College has campuses in Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington Center, Innovation Park (Manassas), Loudoun, Manassas, Reston Center, Springfield Medical Campus, Woodbridge which has the Regional Center for Workforce Education and Training. Academic divisions at the Manassas Campus includes the Communications Technologies and Social Sciences Division, and the Science and Applied Technologies Division. Specialty programs are Early Childhood Education, and Automotive Technology. The Woodbridge campus includes the divisions of Business and Social Sciences; Arts, Communication, and Humanities; Natural Science and Mathematics.

George Mason University Science and Technology Campus has become an established biomedical research campus with programs in bioscience, biotechnology, and bioinformatics.  It is best defined as a partnership with community hospitals, regional medical centers and research foundations for biomedical research and development. The Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research at the Manassas campus is a center created to find advanced diagnostics and treatments for cancer, heart disease, and other serious health problems. George Mason University offers 252 academic majors and minors, and has additional campuses in Arlington (School of Law; School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs; School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. Most programs at the Arlington campus are for graduate and professional students. The Fairfax Campus has the Center for the Arts and EagleBank Arena.

Other buildings include Discovery Hall, Bull Run Hall, Mason Enterprise Center, Hylton Performing Arts Center, Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center, and the Biomedical Research Laboratory. The medical research laboratories include the National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases. The George Mason University Science and Technology Campus also includes the Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine, the Center for Biomedical Genomics, and the Center for the Study of Genomic Liver Diseases. The Prince William Campus encompasses 134 acres serving more than 4,000 students.
